Pioneered systematic innovations in hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgery:
- Proposed a novel classification system for liver cancer and established the theory of safe resection for large hepatocellular carcinoma.
- Developed three techniques for controlling hemorrhage during liver resection and one liver transplantation procedure.
- Introduced the concept of limited liver resection for hilar cholangiocarcinoma, establishing non-sutured anterior biliary wall cholangiojejunostomy and insertion cholangiojejunostomy.
- Optimized pancreaticoduodenectomy protocols and created the Chen’s Pancreaticojejunal Anastomosis Technique.
