Dr Shuvro H Roy-Choudhury, FRCS (London), FRCR (London), CCST (UK), FCIRSE, EBIR is a
Consultant in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology who works in India and part time in the UK with over
25 years of experience.
Professional Qualifications:
After completing his surgical training and FRCS, he trained in Radiology in Yorkshire before completing a
Fellowship in Interventional Radiology in Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital in London under the supervision of
Professor Andreas Adam, ex President of the Royal College of Radiologists and CIRSE. He has worked with
stalwarts in Interventional Radiology like Dr Riccardo Lencioni in Italy, Dr T DeBaere and Dr Afshin Gangi
in France. He is one of the first European Interventionists to be awarded the European Board and Fellowship.
He has worked as a senior Consultant in a leading teaching hospital in the UK since 2004 and as a lead in
Interventional Radiology in NH group of Hospitals, Kolkata, India since 2014.
Expertise and roles:
He practises the breadth of Abdominal, Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology with particular expertise
in tumour ablations like RFA, MWA and cryoablation, embolisations including fibroids and prostate,
complex needle biopsies, injections and drainages, biliary and urological stents, bone intervention, peripheral
arterial and venous interventions including varicose veins, dialysis fistula, TIPSS, Below knee interventions
etc. Since a sabbatical in India in 2012, he has successfully set up the first dedicated interventional lab and a
comprehensive team in Eastern India, including the first accredited training program in IR. This unit has
now expanded to 3 labs with a large team.
He set up and ran the first tumour ablation service (lung, kidney and liver) in the Midlands (UK) and was the
author of the first European paper on kidney ablation. Research areas include tumour ablation, dialysis
banding for obesity, abdominal trauma, biliary/enteral stents, pelvic floor imaging etc. He is an invited faculty in several British (ACPGBI, BSIR), Indian (ISVIR, IRIA, TTRI, ARSCICON, IACTI, APICON, USICON, EMCON, NEW, EVL, PULMOCON), European (ESGAR, CIRSE, ECIO), Asia-Pacific (APCIO, APSCVIR, CCMA) and American (SIR, SPECTRUM) meetings and serves as a
reviewer of several European & Indian journals. He was awarded 5 clinical excellence awards in his 7 years
as a full time UK consultant. He has served as the Scientific Chair of several large international meetings
including ISVIR 2017, 2020, 2021, ACTA 2018 etc. He is an active participant in various online training/ teaching programmes from

He has served as a vice president of ISVIR. He is currently the Vice President of the Indian Society of
Interventional Onco-Radiology and an executive member of APSCVIR. He is a proctor for tumour ablation,
awarded the ‘Hero’ in IR in Eastern India by ISVIR for changing the landscape of IR in this part of India,
where currently he heads the largest IR training centre in Eastern India

He currently the Director of Interventional & Endovascular Radiology and Specialised Imaging for a large hospital group in India and a part time Consultant at the University Hospital of North Midlands at Stoke-On-Trent, UK.
