Professor Thazin Than is a distinguished medical professional currently serving as the Professor and Senior Consultant at the Interventional Radiology Department of the 500-bedded Specialty Hospital in Yangon.   

Academic Excellence and Specialized Training
Dr. Thazin Than earned her M.B.,B.S. from the University of Medicine (1), Yangon, in 1999. Specializing early in Radiology, she obtained her Master of Medical Science (M.Med.Sc) in 2008 and later completed her Doctorate (Dr.Med.Sc) in 2015.

To bring world-class radiological techniques to Myanmar, she completed several prestigious international fellowships:

Interventional Radiology Fellowship at Singapore General Hospital (2014).

Interventional Radiology Fellowship at Anam Hospital, South Korea (2017).

Interventional Radiology Fellowship at the world-renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, USA (2019).

Professional Journey
Her career is marked by steady advancement through Myanmar’s leading medical institutions. From 2006 to 2019, she served in various capacities at Yangon General Hospital, ranging from Radiology Resident to Consultant Interventional Radiologist. In late 2019, she transitioned to the Yangon Specialty Hospital, where she continues to perform advanced interventional procedures and provides expert reporting for CT and MRI scans.

Beyond clinical practice, Professor Thazin Than is a dedicated educator. She is actively involved in training the next generation of radiologists, lecturing medical students and radiology technicians. Her scholarly contributions include significant research on the CT features of cranial meningoencephaloceles and the role of MRI in the preoperative assessment of rectal carcinoma.
