Shuichiro Shiina, M.D., Ph.D., Professor, Department of Gastroenterology, Juntendo University
Shuichiro Shiina, M.D., Ph.D., is a leading hepatologist and interventional oncologist specializing in minimally invasive therapies for liver tumors. He received his M.D. from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tokyo in 1982 and subsequently trained in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the University of Tokyo and Mitsui Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Shiina has held academic positions at the University of Tokyo and served as Professor of Gastroenterology at Juntendo University from 2012 to 2025. He is currently a Visiting Researcher at the Sasaki Institute in Tokyo.
His research focuses on interventional oncology, particularly radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and microwave ablation (MWA). He played a central role in the development of the ACTA guidelines for hepatocellular carcinoma.
He has conducted 17 domestic and 11 international ablation training programs, and recently expanded to overseas programs including live demonstrations.
He has received several awards including the APASL Powell-Sarin Achievement Award (2023).
