Dr. Yibo Gao received M.D. from Tsinghua University and Peking Union Medical College, and Ph.D. in Oncology from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Currently, He serves as a tenure-track assistant professor & doctoral supervisor in Oncology, and in the eight-year M.D. program at Peking Union Medical College; Principal Investigator of the National Key Laboratory for Molecular Oncology, and the Laboratory of Thoracic Oncology, in the National Cancer Center/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College. Dr. Gao is the founder and Director of the Laboratory of Translational Medicine, National Clinical Research Center for Cancer of China. Now also serves as the Director of the Central Laboratory & Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Epigenetics and Precision Medicine for Cancers at Shenzhen Cancer Hospital.
His research mostly focuses on multi-omics integration for precision medicine in cancer. Guided by the key needs in clinical diagnosis and treatment, Dr. Gao delved into the application challenges of new technologies in early screening and individualized treatment for cancers in the lung, esophagus, and colon, including an in-depth exploration of the key mechanisms underlying precancerous lesion progression, immune escape, recurrence, and metastasis, and treatment resistance. Focusing on epigenetic levels such as DNA and RNA methylation and their regulatory proteins, single-cell multi-omics, spatiotemporal omics technologies, and in vitro and in vivo models to study molecular typing and epigenetic regulation of tumor progression mechanisms, develop non-invasive early screening and diagnosis technologies, and investigate efficacy and adverse reactions.
As first or corresponding author, he published 77 papers on SCI-indexed journals, including Nature Genetics, Lancet Oncology, Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy, Molecular Cancer(X5), and Nature Communications(X3), etc. Three papers have been selected as ESI Highly Cited Papers. In addition, He has published 3 books and holds 60 patents. Dr. Gao received the Young Scientist Award of China Anti-Cancer Association (2024), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Excellent Young Scientists (2022), the Shenzhen Outstanding Youth Scientists (2022), the Young Principal Investigator of National Key R&D Program (2021), and the Beijing Nova Program (2018). He has been honored with several academic awards, including the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Awards of China (2018).
