Dr. Bishwajit Bhowmik, MBBS, MD is a Professor of Interventional Radiology in the Department of Radiology & Imaging at Bangladesh Medical University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He also serves as the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (BSVIR).
Dr. Bhowmik graduated with an MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College in 1998 and obtained his MD in Radiology & Imaging from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in 2008. He began his professional career as a Radiologist at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in 2009. In 2010, he joined Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology & Imaging.
To strengthen his expertise in minimally invasive image-guided procedures, Dr. Bhowmik completed a Fellowship in Interventional Radiology at the Department of Diagnostic Radiology (VIR), Singapore General Hospital, Singapore, in 2013. He further expanded his interventional training through observer fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), USA, and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute, Mumbai, India.
In recognition of his academic and clinical achievements, he was promoted to Associate Professor of Interventional Radiology in 2016 and subsequently to Professor in 2022 at Bangladesh Medical University.
Dr. Bhowmik has extensive experience in vascular and non-vascular interventions, interventional oncology, embolization procedures, hepatobiliary interventions, and other image-guided minimally invasive therapies. He has actively contributed to medical research and academics, with more than 50 publications in national and international journals.
Through his clinical practice, research activities, teaching, and leadership in professional organizations, Dr. Bhowmik continues to play an important role in the development and advancement of Interventional Radiology in Bangladesh.
