Dr. Amrit Koirala, MBBS, MD, is a highly distinguished Consultant Interventional Radiologist and the Program Director Consultant of Interventional Oncology at the Nepal Cancer Hospital & Research Center in Kathmandu . With over a decade of specialized experience, he is a prominent leader dedicated to advancing interventional oncology and palliative care within Nepal . Dr. Koirala’s track record of academic excellence began at Kathmandu Medical College, where he earned his MBBS as a gold medalist . He subsequently completed his radiology residency at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital in Manila, earning his board certification from the Philippine College of Radiology . To further hone his specialized clinical skills, he completed a yearlong fellowship in Interventional Radiology at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok . A recognized leader in the medical community, Dr. Koirala is the President-Elect and Immediate-Past General Secretary of the Nepalese Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (NSVIR) . Through this leadership role, he has been instrumental in advancing the discipline nationwide, including organizing collaborative national education events on active patient care . On the global stage, Dr. Koirala actively contributes to the international medical community. He serves as a reviewer for the Korean Journal of Radiology and the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine . He is also a frequent speaker at major international conferences, including the Asia Pacific Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology and the Asia-Pacific Congress of Interventional Oncology as well as Indian Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (ISVIR) . Clinically, Dr. Koirala has been pivotal in bringing advanced, minimally invasive procedures to oncology patients in Nepal . His pioneering clinical work in Nepal includes establishing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for liver cancer, establising tumor ablations (such as microwave ablation) programs, biliary interventions, and interventional oncology to name a few.
