Position: Professor, winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars

Research Interest: Mechanism of the drug resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma

Profile: Dr. Shi is an expert in liver cancer treatment with extensive experience in locoregional and systemic therapies, including surgery, interventional therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. He has led numerous clinical trials and fundamental research focusing on optimizing treatment for stage B and C hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). As corresponding author, he/she has published widely in top-tier journals such as J Clin Oncol, JAMA Oncol, J Natl Cancer Inst, and Hepatology.

Academic achievements: Dr. Shi identified that arterial chemotherapy is a critical factor in improving the efficacy of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and proposed the novel FOLFOX-based hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (FOLFOX-HAIC) regimen. He further proposed a triple combination therapy (FOLFOX-HAIC plus targeted therapy and immunotherapy) for advanced HCC. Additionally, his research has uncovered novel biomarkers of drug resistance and identified a new therapeutic target for HCC. Most recently, FOLFOX‑HAIC has become the standard of care for advanced HCC in many Chinese medical centers, as recommended by the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Primary Liver Cancer (2026 Edition).
