Prof. Liu has been engaged in comprehensive surgical treatment and basic research of lung cancer for 30 years. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery and lung transplantation for lung cancer and tracheal tumors. He founded "Single-Direction Thoracoscopic Lung Surgery" which provides the key techniques supporting the wide application of mini-invasive lung surgery. He also pioneered the world’s first groundbreaking percutaneous spherical resection of pulmonary nodules, driving thoracoscopic minimally invasive surgery into the era of ultra-minimally invasive puncture surgery. His team has conducted systematic research on the initiation, progression, recurrence, metastasis, therapeutic resistance and postoperative minimal residual disease of lung cancer, yielding a series of original findings with over 100 million RMB in commercialization research outcomes.
He is a recipient of the National Distinguished Physician Award, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS), Member of American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), Program Committee Member of European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS). He is also the director of National Center for Clinical Quality Control of Thoracic Surgery, Vice Chair of the Chinese Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (CSTCS), and co-Chief Editors of Journal of Video-assisted Thoracic Surgery, Chief Editor of Chinese Journal of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery.
